So I finally think I have some time to do some tweaks to my "Mostly Harmless" mod to iron out the little problems I have with it, and I also fancy making it multiplayer and putting it out there somewhere for folks to play on.

However, I am a little stumped on where to begin with getting the mod ready for multiplayer, and where to host the server.

I have a few (n00b) questions on this as follows:

1. What extras do I need to add to the mod for multiplayer (e.g. FLHook) and how do I get these integrated, what changes do I need to make to the various ini files?
2. Where can I host my server, and how much is it likely to cost me to do so?

If someone can point me in the right direction, that'd be grand.

Thanks

For a new mod in today's smaller community I wouldn't tell you to pay for a hosted server. Host it on a second computer if you can figure it out.

A simple way to start out your server is with Ioncross. You can add money, rename players etc.

If you want beaming and other admin commands then use flhook, Starport is best suited to get you running with that.

Good luck!

I downloaded a huge bunch of files at the beginning of this year, called FL_TOOLS - can;t remember where I found it, but it has all the server-side stuff in it.
As far as I can tell, the server software is simply a bunch of wrappers for communicating with FLServer, and the likes of FLHook has some additional commands for more fancy stuff.

Anyway, having had a look through the lot, I've decided to try out FLServerGuard, no reall fancy stuff, just a server program with remote client (like procon) so you can start & stop the FLServer, ban/kick/unban and issue messages to all players, that should be enough, hopefully...

Thanks - already got these :). I need to spend some time fiddling around to get the server-side tools working properly with FLServer.

You can download the mod from http://www.moddb.com/mods/freelancer-mostly-harmless

It already contains all the patches required.

It works as open single player, and as multiplayer (but with no ant-cheat or fancy server functions, just FLServer)

Be sure to download version 0.2b

Do a clean install of Freelancer. Load it up, start a new single player game, then quit out of it. Use FLMM to then apply the Mostly Harmless mod.
If you get problems, check that the Autosave.fl and Restart.fl files have been removed from <Documents>\My Games\Freelancer\Accts\SinglePlayer

To get high resolution graphics, open up <Documents>\My Games\Freelancer\PerfOptions.ini and set your preferred resolution in the [Display] section

Code:
[Display]
size = 1920, 1080
color_bpp = 32
depth_bpp = 24

Yes, 0.2b is the latest version, uploaded in December - includes HD textures (hence the download is bigger)
