Hello Wizou, what other names have you been known by in the Freelancer Community?
No particular name, just Wizou

What part of the world do you live in?
I live in France, in Paris

How old are you?
31

How many years have you played Freelancer?
let say 2 years but not regularly

Have you released or helped to build a mod? Please describe it.
not myself, but my Freelancer Companion is often used to help mod
builder correct problem in their mods

Have you written a tutorial? Please tell us about it.
no

Have you created any tools for the community to use? What does it do?
Freelancer Companion analyse the games file (or mods file) to determine
the most profitable trade routes through a nice interface, showing
system maps, universe maps, and even the time taken for each routes.
It also print errors found in the game file so the mod maker can find it
useful.

Have you ever been an Admin of a mod community or website?
no

Okay, let's get to the meat and potatoes! How and when did you first get involved in the wonderful game of Freelancer?2 years ago, a friend of mine was playing EVE Online and I loved the
idea of a game where you would travel and carry goods from planets to
planets, meet people etc...
Unfortunately I didn't have a recent hardware configuration so I did
search for another similar game that wouldn't require a too strong
configuration and without a monthly fee, that's how I came to discover
Freelancer

What aspects of Freelancer are you most interested in?
At first I played the whole single-player scenario, but then I
discovered the joy of the multiplayer servers and soon after that a
whole community of people existed that aimed at enhancing the game
experience through new ships, new systems, and plenty of tools and
modifications etc...
When playing multiplayer, I liked the aspect of being a trader trying to
find the best route and avoid the space pirates.
To help in this task, I searched for trade route tools but the few I
found were either slow, or hard to use, so, being a developer I started
the development of my own tool : Freelancer Companion

What groups / clans have you been affiliated with?
none

List your accomplishments and projects you have participated in.
Freelancer Companion

List any awards, offices or positions you have held.
none

How has the Freelancer scene changed since you started playing?
I can't say.. after a while I turned my interest to other development
project and wasn't so much active about playing Freelancer.

Are you currently active on any servers?
Not really. But I still come online sometimes, particularly to check out
new mods and maintaining Freelancer Companion's compatibility with them.

What mod really stands out in your mind?
I don't have one favorites but I'm always impressed by those mods that
contains a huge number of systems and those that mix the Freelancer
universe with those of StarTrek and StarWars.

What do you find most interesting about Freelancer...the single player aspect, clan wars, being a pirate, a cop, vanilla servers, hugely modded, Star wars, what?
Having studied how the game files work, and as I am now myself working
in the videogame industry, I found really insteresting how they stored
the data in the game files in such a way that made the game really easy
to enhance in so many ways (goods, ships, systems, etc.. everything is
easily configurable and modifiable)

What will be your role in Freelancer in the coming years?
Mostly inactive. Just maintaining Freelancer Companion up & working

Describe in detail any memorable Freelancer experiences.
Probably my first trade route on a multiplayer server. I was welcomed by
some nice players that took me under their wings and offered me to join
them in a dangerous trade route.. We had a good dose of adrenaline and I
learnt lots of good tips & tricks to avoid the pirates :)

Why do you spend countless hours building mods, making tools, answering questions or writing tutorials?
I think it's called passion ^_^
At first I just wanted to proove that one could write a fast real-time
and full-featured traderoute calculator working on the game files

What other games do you regularly play?
Well I'm now working for a videogame company !
So I get to play a lot to the MMO games we are currently releasing :
* Exalight http://www.exalight.fr
* Empire of Sports http://www.empireofsports.com

Do you have any hobbies other than games?
Girls ? ;-)
I am also doing some live TV shows on the personal television channel
service offered by my ISP Free.fr.
People throughout France can watch my show on their TV and participate
in the live interactive games I offer, like quiz, blind-test, Pictionary
and such...

Is there anything new coming up in the future for you?
Hmm.... Difficult to see.... Always in motion is the future...

How do you view the future of Freelancer?
I guess, as long as there are fans crazy enough to continue enhancing
the mods & servers, there will be players :)

Can you recommend any others in the community for an interview?
no

Are there any last things you would like to add?>
Yes, I wish to thanks my producer, my family, my........ ok I think I
will just shut up %)

Thank you for the interview! It is the contribution of folks like you
that help to keep the game and the community alive! It is the contribution of folks like you
Thanks for your interest
