Hmmmm what will the Outcome be?

Quote:
Welcome!

If you’ve made it here, you probably know who I am. Maybe you have heard of Wing Commander and its sequels, or perhaps Strike Commander, Privateer or Freelancer.

If not, you’re still welcome!

I grew up making video games. I sold my first game at the age of 13 and created Wing Commander when I was 21. But 10 years ago, at the height of my career I took a break. Not because I stopped loving or playing games but because I had become frustrated with the limits of the technology at the time to realize my vision.

I decided to pursue my desire to create detailed worlds and tell sophisticated stories in film.

I always said the moment I became interested in making games again was when I was going to come back.

With the power of today’s computers and the reach of the internet I finally feel I have the tools to build the connected experience that I always dreamed of. A world that would be more satisfying and richer than any film I could work on.

With films you tell stories but with games you create worlds.

If you’ve played my games, you’ll know that’s what I love to do.

I’m here to tell you that I have been working on something for just under a year, something that embraces everything that my past games stood for but takes it to the next level.

I hope you’ll be as excited by it as I am.

My new endeavor is still in its early stages but I invite you to take the journey with me.

If you register below you’ll become an insider that will not only give you early access to the game’s website and forums, but you will also get the opportunity for rewards and privileges that no one else will get. It’s my way of showing how important your early involvement and support is.

The full announcement will be at 10am Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5) on the 10th day of the 10th month of this year.

My name is Chris Roberts.

And if you would indulge me I would like to create a world for you.

Track his progress here.

personally i dont like the hype, especially if people dont know what they can even expect
if this project turns into a failure (IF) then it has a major negative impact on an already hurt genre

I agree OP

Plus the idea of it being basically a MP only game with limited SP that in my opinion is beyond absurd. Also notice that we can run servers but it wont be anything like the public servers. Also notice that if you buy you wont have an advantage over other players as long as they spend forever on the server to build themselves up to that point. In other words if you have lots money you can buy the best stuff in the first 30sec's and blow everything to kingdom come. I do not like this style of game play because if and when it dies being as it is MP and their owned public servers the game is gone and unlike Freelancer where we the fans/modders have kept it alive it will just die and be gone and we will be out the time and money we spent on this game. Sorry but I will not pay a dime for rentware.

By-the-way, has anyone here gotten their Star Citizen ID Card and/or, T-shirt yet? I did. :D \o/

What you say about it being rent-ware, may be true but, I sponsored it and I'm getting a hard copy of the game, not a digital dl, however, I will be getting some digital add-ons for it once the game goes into Alpha, I think since I have one of the Golden Tickets. If the game does die at least, I'll have something to show for it, anyway. I have games now that have faded away and yet, they aren't lost on the Net and whether I can use them or not, I still have possession of the game.

The only thing I really would of liked to have seen added to the ID card would have been, a picture of my ship on the backside of it, instead of just a plain green color. Maybe even an area to sign my name as HunterKiller on it as proof of ownership like most any other cards you get. I'm going to add that in the future, myself though.

They got the shirts, I'm waiting for the hats, now. :)

Got my card last week. Was a bit disappointed to see it was made in China. :(

Yeah, me too but, I guess he went the cheap route in order to put more money into other things like, his belly. :D Notice how much more weight he's gained since he first started this adventure?

I think his idea of getting his own recording studio for this game was a good one though. Beats the cost of renting and time delays. 11 million and growing.

Maybe you & Soup should start working on your own game and use the CryEngine 3 for it since, it's open source and get your 11 mill started too. :P

Combine AA, Decent & Freelancer into a Space/Planet Battle Zone. lol Set it up to be better run with AMD cards instead of, nVidia. I see so many games for nVidia and read about players having hundreds of problems with those games designed for using nVidia but, I use AMD and am not having any problems with it, for nVidia games. That's funny.

Note: Any links to the website you have will need for your accounts to be upgraded there. My login info is still the same but, I have no idea about this url crap he's incorporated into it. I try to create one using my name there but, it rejects it as already in use.

Well, I have an AMD 6750 HD and have yet to have any problems with all the games I have and/or, been playing of late. It's Dx11 ready and there are so few games that allow me to make use of it, however, I have a few games now, that run using it and it's totally awesome for it's graphic abilities. I'm still using the 3.14 drivers, recommended for it even though, there's been new beta drivers released of late. I'll not use any betas for my video card. Once they are final, then I will use them. My reason for that is, those I know that are using betas are, having problems with graphics in game and they are rolling back to the 3.14 drivers for better performance.
